The Ugly Duckling


The first fairy tale coin 'The Ugly Duckling' was issued on 31 March 2005.

The Fairy tale coin was issued as a 10-krone in three different versions - a gold, a silver and in an ordinary 10-krone.

A 10-krone coin in gold (900 Au) with diameter 22.0 mm, weight 8.65 gram, and alloy 900‰ Au (gold). Gold coin - Sold out.

On the reverse of the first fairy tale coin, an adult swan is studying its reflection in the lake at Bregentved Manor, where Hans Christian Andersen was inspired to write his famous fairy tale 'The Ugly Duckling'
A 10-krone coin in fine silver with diameter 38,0 mm, weight 31,1 gram, and alloy 999‰ Ag (fine silver). Silver coin - Sold out.

The coin shows an adult swan studying its reflection in the lake at Bregentved Manor. The motif is taken from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale 'The Ugly Duckling'.

The motif on the coin is designed by the sculptor Hans Pauli Olsen, who was also the artist behind the Christiansborg Palace Tower coin, the third in the series of thematic coins with towers on the reverse.
